BioPro 190 Biodiesel Processor Kit - How It Works

 |
The BioPro 190 coverts new or used vegetable oils into diesel fuel called Biodiesel through a chemical process. The oil is chemically altered to allow it to run in any unmodified diesel engine.
What is so great and unique about the BioPro units is that the majority of the work is done by the machine with very little effort from the user. Unlike other biodiesel processors where you must meter chemicals, monitor the machine and turn valves, with this one you simply pour everything in and press the big green button and walk away.
To begin the user simply fills the BioPro unit with 50 gallons of dewatered and filtered oil. This oil can be any organic oil, but waste or used oil is the most common feedstock to make biodiesel because it can be obtained locally and in most cases free of charge.
After adding the oil to the machine the user fills the machine with the predetermined amount of methanol and catalyst. Methanol is added to the machine. The catalyst is easily weighed and poured into the machine. The third step is measuring the appropriate amount of sulfuric acid. Then simply press the big green button and pour the sulfuric acid into the machine. Simply walk away and let the machine do its work. It does most of the work all by itself unattended!

Here is the process of how the BioPro works to convert the oil into clean, clear, and ready to use biodiesel.
Etherification or Acid stage
During this stage the BioPro mixes the sulfuric acid and part of the methanol into the oil. The sulfuric acid modifies the free fatty acids so that the methanol can attach to them creating biodiesel.
Transesterification or Base stage
In this stage the BioPro mixes the base catalyst with the rest of the methanol. The catalyst which is normally lye, attacks the oil breaking the molecules apart into glycerol and fatty acid chains. After the molecules are broken apart the methanol begins to attach to the fatty acid chains. At that point the glycerol molecules begin to drop out of the oil into a mixture called glycerin.
This stage takes a number of hours; the BroPro is mixing the oil and chemicals together with a powerful tri-blade impeller. This mixing ensures that all the oil will be chemically altered.
Settling Stage
After stage one and two the oil is allowed to settle for a period of time allowing the glycerin to fall to the bottom of the tank separating from the fresh biodiesel.
Draining the Glycerin
During this stage the user comes back to the BioPro and drains the glycerin. This is the only interaction from the user during this stage.
Washing
The BioPro will now begin the washing stage. The machine will increase the heat and spray a mist of clean water into the biodiesel beginning the washing stage. The water is heavier than the biodiesel and quickly falls to the bottom.
As the water falls small amounts of methanol and soap molecules attach to the water cleaning the biodiesel. After the first mist wash the water is drained out and the second mist wash starts. This time the mixing impeller comes on in the agitated wash cycle.
The BioPro then allows the oil and water to separate before draining off the water. A third agitated wash cycle then begins to completely purify the biodiesel. Once this last cycle is complete the water settles to the bottom and is automatically pumped out by the machine.
Drying
Drying is the final stage. After the BioPro drains all the water after the wash cycle, the heat remains on and the impeller turns on again. The freshly washed biodiesel is then heated and mixed to evaporate excess water. After the mixing and heating cycle is done the BioPro allows the biodiesel to settle one more time allowing the heated biodiesel to evaporate any excess water. When the process is complete you can enjoy high quality, low cost, clear biodiesel ready to use!
You are ready to enjoy the savings biodiesel gives you. There is no need to transfer the biodiesel into containers simply hook up the hose to the included fuel pump and pump the new biodiesel right into your vehicle! It’s that simple!
