BYD Moves Up Plans to Sell EV in US - 9/3/09
In a report from the Wall Street Journal, Chinese automaker BYD has moved up its plans to sell an all-electric car in the United States next year. Warren Buffet is financially backing BYD and sees real promise with their future.
BYD’s first vehicle to be sold in the US is the five seat e6 crossover with a price tag of $40,000. WSJ indicates the first launch will be limited to a few hundred vehicles in select markets. BYD goes further to say that most of these vehicles will go to government agencies, utility companies and some celebrities.
BYD claims the all-electric e6 will go from zero to 62 mph in ten seconds and has a maximum speed of 99 mph. BYD claims the range will be 186 miles on a full charge of its lithium ion battery pack.
