First Electric Car to be built in South America - 7/15/09

Fiat has been developing an electric version of the Fiat Palio Weekend for three years.  Fiat claims it has a range of 75 miles on one charge and can speed up to 60 MPH.  The draw back is the price, $70,000! 

Fiat partnered with Itaipu Binacional and the Swiss KWO to develop the car.  The electric engine was developed by KWO and its battery is 100% recyclable because it uses sodium chloride and nickel.  Full charge time is about eight hours.

According to Fiat it will go from zero to 62 MPH in nine seconds.
