Electric Kit Car - 10/27/08
Gary Krysztopik brought a very different car to the Alt Cat Austin this weekend. The ZW2 is a hot rod like trike with a lot of chrome. The three wheeled bike is a prototype kit car. This is the first of his plans for a full line of electric vehicle (EV) kit cars. He is hoping to have this line of cars ready by the end of this year. They will sell for around $20,000. The fat wheels shown in the picture are not common for an EV. Krysztopik said this car is for show and is not efficiency. It is meant to get people interested in EVs.
In the picture you can see white boxes under the seat. These are the batteries; there are two more rows in the front. There are a total of 24 lead acid batteries weighing 2,000 pounds. Krysztopik’s wants to keep everything modular so if he decides to put in smaller and lighter lithium-ion batteries the seats could be lowered to keep the center of gravity closer to the ground.
