Luis a German company has announced that its electric vehicle (EV) called the Luis Free EV is on sale for less than 12,000 EURO or $17,300. That’s less than half the projected price for the Chevy Volt and the Toyota plug-in Prius coming in around $40,000.
The Luis Free EV is built in China by a partner; Luis is currently not disclosing their name. The Luis Free EV has two models; a low power and a faster high power with both having a fiberglass body. The low power model has an output of 5.5kW and can reach 60 km/h (40 mph). The lower power model is classified as a neighborhood EV. The second high power model has an output of 8 kW and can reach 80 km/h (50 mph). It requires a standard driver’s license to drive the high power model.
The Luis Free EV will seat four and has a range of 200 km (120 miles). Luis says the car can be charged up to 80% capacity using a household outlet in two hours. It can be fully charged in five hours.
