1,300 Bus Fleet Going Electric in Montreal by 2025 - 6/1/10

The city of Montreal is converting its entire fleet of buses to electric by 2025.  If they are successful Montreal will be the first North American city to have an all electric bus fleet.  Montreal is moving to green its fleet before 2025.

They are waiting for 380 high efficiency diesel buses to replace some of their fleet.  These 380 buses will be in service till 2025 when the electric buses will be put in service.   They also want to place hybrid buses in service as well.  Starting in 2012 all buses that will be purchased for the fleet will be hybrid or electric.  Montreal will be testing some electric buses powered by overhead wires.  This is the first step in replacing all their fleet with zero emission buses in 15 years.
