India’s Tata Motors plan to launch an electric version of the Indica in Norway in one year.
Tata Motors known for making the world’s cheapest car showcased a prototype of the “Indica ev” on Wednesday. Electric cars have almost zero emissions.
Nissan Motor and Mitsubishi are both planning to roll out electric cars in a few years amid soaring gas prices and stronger emission rules.
GM will be racing to beat Toyota with its all electric Chevy Volt. GM plans to have a showroom ready car this year.
Toyota said it would speed up development of their electric cars with a goal of mass producing them in 2010.
Tata Motors partnered with a Norwegian firm. They want to test the new Indica ev electric car in Norway because they are building an infrastructure for electric cars.
Tata Motors say the Indica ev can run for 175 km or 110 miles to 200 km with a two pack battery.
