Tesla Reaching Over the Pond - 1/29/09

Tesla, the first electric sports car made in the U.S. has plans now to reach Europe and the UAE.

The Tesla Roadster all-electric car is a high performance sports car that can go from 0 to 100 kilometers in 3.9 seconds.

Even though the Roadster has not made it to the UAE, they soon may be able to take a test drive.  Two projects are underway to make this happen.

The first project is partnered with resort properties on islands of Dubai and there are 1,000 flats that are totally energy independent.  Their energy comes from solar and wind, but includes a high level of luxury at the same time.

Investors in these resorts want to offer the Tesla Roadster as an option with the flats that are being sold.  They also want dozens of Roadsters to be used for rentals.

The second project in Adu Dhabi and Qatar are the first electric sports car championships.

Tesla has 250 models sold to Europe this year already.  They have signed a deal with Daimler in Germany to supply them with battery packs and chargers for the smart electric car which will go on sale in 2011.

Tesla cannot manufacture enough cars to meet demand, but with the resent down turn in the economy they have delayed their Model S saloon car, which priced much lower than the Roadster.

The cars are not officially for sale in the Middle East for now, but there is amazing interest in the Roaster.
