State Funding Fuels $250M Ethanol Plant - 5/24/06
Governor Ed Rendell has supplied $17.4 million to MA-based BioEnergy International LLC for a two-plant ethanol production facility. $250 million is the estimated cost.
They are currently looking at four different sites in Clearfield County. The requirement for land is approximately 50 acres. This new facility is hoping to produce about 108 million gallons of corn-based ethanol. The building with include space for production and storage according to Sam McDonald, VP of development and project director for BioEnergy.
A facility that uses local waste, such as agricultural residue and wood is under evaluation which would cost about $70 million. The facility could produce one to two million gallons of ethanol a year.
Ground breaking is set for late 2007 with an opening date of late 2008. Lukoil Americas has arranged to purchase and distribute the ethanol.
This is trying to break the grips of foreign oil cartels by making 108 million gallons of denatured, fuel grade ethanol. Pennsylvannia currently sends about $30 billion overseas.
This will also support the market of their corn growers and help to induce a cleaner environment. About 110 jobs are anticipated to be created by this endeavor.
