Ethanol and Alternative Fuel Bills Passed by the House - 2/8/07
Feb. 8 2007, the U.S. House of Representatives passed several bills relating to the use of alternative fuels, particulary E85. First, HR 547 was approved which establishes a research and development program in DOE and EPA on alternative fuels. Also, an amendment was approved which was offered by Mr. Weller that will require EPA and DOE to be cognizant and recognize the impacts that any further additives they recommend through the research program may have on issues with respect to certification by UL for fuel dispensers for E85 and other biofuel blends.
Finally, another amendment was approved in the form of the Roger’s bill (in the form of HR 570) that would take one-half of the CAFE Penalty Funds and direct these monies to build alternative fuel infrastructure. This bill has been a priority of the NEVC for the past two years.
The quick and overwhelming passage of these alternative fuel bills clearly demonstrate the strong support that exists in the Congress to advance the continued use of E85.
