AMG Plans Green performance Cars - 10/15/08

AMG the maker of high performance Mercedes-Benz models is planning to build hybrid and diesel versions.  They plan to use advanced low weight materials to retain the performance while going greener.

AMG states that emissions along with the economy are important and they have the technology now to make it happen.

The new SL65 Black Series Mercedes with (670bhp and 738lb ft) may be the last AMG car to have such high outputs.

AMG plans to focus heavily on materials technology to lower weight and boost power to weight ratios making them lighter and more agile.

AMG plans to unveil a mild hybrid gas-electric model by the end of the decade.

Hybrids normally mean more weight, but AMG will use their knowledge of lightweight material to offset the increase in weight.

A small responsive diesel is also in their business plan and a twin turbo version of the 3.0 liter V6 in the C class may be in the future for AMG.
