Future Fuel: Hydrogen station a joint effort of Ford, BP - 10/26/06
Ford Motor Co. and BP Plc are working together to construct a hydrogen fuel station in Taylor. Engineers are hoping that hydrogen could supplant conventional gasoline as the main fuel of the future. As of right now there are 30 hydrogen fuel cell Focus passenger cars within the United States. Detroit has three hydrogen filling stations that are included in the nine that BP owns. A Focus fuel cell vehicle can travel about 200 miles between fill ups. These fill ups take three minutes or under to do. Commercially there is not a time frame set for these vehicles to be bought, however it is predicted that it won’t happen for at least 30 years. These cars currently have a price tag of more than $1 million. The current fleet of fuel cell vehicles has traveled over 300,000 miles and has been on the road for about two years.
