Modine Hydrogen Generation Technology used with a Chevron Hydrogen Station - 8/9/06

A world leader in developing thermal solutions, Modine Manufacturing announced it is moving to the second phase in the development of on site hydrogen generation technology to be used in a hydrogen refueling stations built by Chevron Hydrogen Company.

Modine collaborating with Chevron and BASF Catalysts has developed a highly integrated Advanced Steam Methane Reformer (ASMR).  Combining Modine’s thermal management technology with BASF’s catalyst development and Chevron’s experience in the field of steam methane reforming has lead to highly efficient and cost effective product.  The prototype reformer has logged over 1,000 hours since April 2005 with great results and performance.   The testing is being preformed at a Chevron lab in Houston, TX.  The next phase is the PHG which will couple a compressor with storage and dispensing systems at the fueling site supplying hydrogen for hydrogen fueled vehicles.  The ASMR reactor technology incorporates catalyst coated heat exchangers which provide high efficiency through their integrated reactor technology.

In the summer of 2007 the new PHG will be installed at Chevron’s Hydrogen Station on a U.S. military base in Selfridge, Michigan.  This station will provide hydrogen fuel for light duty fuel cell vehicles.  This will be the first cold climate areas where this technology will be tested.
