Driving Test Measuring Eco-Friendly Drivers in Europe - 9/19/08
While logging a driver’s errors in parking and mirror use, examiners will now measure if the driver is driving in a fuel efficient way.
The Driving Standards Agency has added this new test to comply with European Union legislation.
This new test will not fail anyone, but the new drivers will be given a detailed environmental assessment of their performance and instructions on how they should improve. Example, drivers will be told not to gear down when stopping and avoid sudden braking and quick acceleration is advised.
The government hopes these tips learned during the new test will save the average user a month’s worth of fuel over the course of a year. Combining these tips with a fuel efficient car could save the driver three months of fuel a year.
They hope to save the driver money and help the environment at the same time.
Other common sense changes include changing gears earlier to keep the RPM’s down using less fuel.
This program has already proved successful and will help drivers save money.
