Israel Leading in Alternative Energy - 7/26/08
Did you know Israel has the second largest number of venture capital startups in the world, behind the U.S.?
The countries technology sector is very active, with companies on the leading edge of geothermal, solar power, water purification and more. It makes sense; Israel is an arid region with few natural resources. It does have a lot of sunshine.
Over 90% of the buildings and homes in Israel use rooftop solar power collectors for mainly heating water. Israel is adding solar capacity rapidly. In 10 years solar power could provide 35% of the country’s energy compared to 6% now.
Israel must be water efficient. They currently recycle more than 75% of their water. Israel has led the way on all kinds of innovations in everything from desalinating seawater to reverse osmosis for water filtration.
My question is why isn’t the U.S. doing anything similar to what Israel doing? Have we been wasteful, fat and happy all these years and don’t know anything else. Failing to plan for the future is planning to fail.
