Europe Plans Huge Solar Project - 06/29/09
A German led project plans to supply Europe with solar energy from the deserts of North Africa. The project involves 20 firms including Siemens, Deutsche Bank, and energy companies like RWE.
They will meet on July 13 to present concrete plans to start the flow of energy to Europe in two to three years.
The plans are to use low tech solar thermal power using mirrors to heat up water which will drive turbines instead of using photovoltaic cells. This project promises to be the largest green project in the world providing 15% of Europe’s energy needs.
Similar plants like this have been in operation in the American west and work on more plants have been started in Spain, Algeria, Morocco and the United Arab Emirates.
