Wind Power Grows in California - 8/17/06
2.5 million Homes are powered completely by U.S. wind energy facilities by exceeding 10,000 megawatts in generating capacity per day.
Southern California Edison’s portfolio already figures wind power into their portfolio of renewable energy sources. They are the leader at utilizing renewable power to suite consumer’s needs.
Wind power offers the country’s economy, environment, and energy security a new way to provide electricity supplies. Wind energy could greatly impact the nation’s power portfolio.
Growth in this power supplied has increased due to the demand for this energy source and anxiety about the current situation over fuel price volatility and supply.
An area with strong, heavy wind is suitable for a large tower with a propeller to create wind power.
While the propeller is turning it moves a generator which manufactures electricity.
To achieve more power. . . more towers and larger propellers are needed.
During 1980 California built the first commercial wind farms. They only attained 1,000 megawatts by 1985. Fourteen years later 2,000 megawatts were reached. This has increased fivefold since 1999.
States who are struggling to keep up with the growth of populations are looking at a higher demand of wind generated power.
Most families have many electronic devices that require charging almost everyday along with televisions, satellite or cable service, computers, dishwashers, and the list goes on. Multiply that with the growing population energy is a cherished amenity
